About Playtyme Papillon Puppies

Puppy Care

Our Mission

Here at PlayTyme Papillons, we strive to produce healthy, well adjusted puppies that exude breed type. Temperament, health, and conformation are the foundation of our breeding program.

Each litter of ours is carefully planned and cared for to ensure the best puppies possible.

Veterinary Health Check

Each puppy we produce is checked out by our veterinarians. They receive their first Few rounds of Distemper/Parvo/Parinfluenza vaccines as well as a full physical, cardiology, and fecal exam. They are then sent home with a signed health certificate from our Veterinarian in your puppy packet. We will also provide the new owners with a detailed vaccination recommendation to share with their veterinarian.

Microchip

Our puppies go home microchipped and enrolled with the AKC Reunite Program. When a dog’s microchip is enrolled with AKC Reunite, their ID is linked to the owner’s name(s), phone numbers, emergency contacts and other vital information in the database. When the dog is found, AKC Reunite will then immediately send the owners text messages, emails and begin contacting all the phone numbers on the pet’s record to reunite them with their family as quickly as possible.

Deworming Protocol

All of our puppies follow a strict preventative deworming protocol to ensure the puppy is sent home free of any intestinal parasites. Each puppy is dewormed weekly starting at 2 weeks old with Pyrantel Pamoate (Nemex), Toltrazuril (Baycox), or Fenbendazole (Safeguard) to prevent an assortment of potential parasites. This strict schedule helps to hopefully have no surprises when the owner gets their new puppy home. Each puppy is sent home with a document that outlines what dewormers the puppy has received so the owners and their vet can determine the best deworming schedule for the puppy moving forward.

Socialization

Our litters are raised in our homes where they get the best start for their future life as a cherished family pet. In addition to following a slightly modified version of the Puppy Culture program, our puppies are exposed to everything they would be in an average household (and more too!). Our puppies are introduced to a variety of sights, sounds, smells, surfaces, people, dogs, and other animals. All of these steps are paramount in creating a well adjusted puppy that’s ready for their life in their new homes. It is imperative that the new buyers continue to socialize their new puppies for the best possible outcome. Learn more about Puppy culture here

Our papillon puppies are raised in a warm and loving environment . Our papillon puppies are played with daily so that they are well socialized to be wonderful companions. Early socialization is key to having sweet and loving puppies that adjust well to their new homes.

Potty Training

While our puppies do not come 100% potty trained, we do begin the process for our new owners. Starting at 6 weeks old, our puppies are raised with a potty area of pine pellets or pine shavings. In combination with the obsessive cleaning of the puppies living area, the designated potty area teaches the puppies the difference between living and potty spots. This association teaches puppies early on to “hold it” and makes the potty training process extremely easy for the new owners. We recommed placing sawdust shavings where you want the puppy to potty outside... We will send you home with some of the shavings we use. We’ve had several buyers over the years tell us that their new puppy potty trained in in a short time!

How a puppy is raised directly impacts how it transitions to housetraining.

Health Tested Parents

All parents are genetically health tested before we breed to rule out genetic defects, More about this topic here or under Papillon Breed Information tab at the top  we have had our papillons live well into their later teens because we also concerned about longevity.

Our adults and puppies are all raised inside our home with love and care 24/7.

Papillons puppies- the Butterfly dog make a wonderful pet. This butterfly dog is easy to care for, has a manageable coat and loves your company.

Papillons are outstanding companion dogs with lots of personality. They are very sweet natured and intelligent and have wonderful temperaments. Papillons are great with children and love everyone they meet. They're very devoted little dogs and we work hard to breed outstanding representations of the breed.

We have beautiful Papillon puppies. Both parents are usually AKC Champions and have all of their health clearances. Puppies are raised in our home with our family and are well socialized prior to going to their new homes. We also start all puppies on litter and pee pad training prior to leaving. We compete in conformation and performance events with our dogs and are members of the American Kennel Club, Papillon Club of America, and Kalamazoo Kennel Club. We have been breeding dog for 3 people generations and have over 150 combined experince breeding and showing dogs

We are proud to be an AKC Breeder of Merit.

This breed has been adored as a pet for hundreds of years and was originally owned by royalty. They are very intelligent and easily trained. Papillons perform well in all disciplines from obedience, tracking, rally, agility and even work as service dogs. Consider placing a deposit with us for a papillon. Clients with deposits get first consideration when a puppy is available. Some clients are very particular about sex and color. We however, are very particular that the puppy be a good fit for your home.
Because we can't predict what the color/sex/type of puppies may be born in a litter, deposits can be transferred to another litter.

Contact us if you are serious about a puppy from us. We only place people on our waiting list with a non-refundable deposit. See the Deposit Process page for more information about this process. Assuming flexible preferences it can take 6 months to a year to receive a puppy from us. Rarely do we have puppies "available" now, we breed based on deposits in hand. As responsible breeders we feel that knowing before we breed a litter where puppies are going is important to us. This is why we have our deposit waiting list.

We are not a puppy mill. We breed quality dogs, that will look like the breed should when they grow up You are always welcome to schedule a visit in our home and see our dogs If you not able to come for a visit and pick your baby up, safe shipping available.

Some of the reasons a puppy might not be kept as a breeding dog are:

Tail not curled around the back like a tea cup handle - it may be carried to high or to tight. while this does not effect a pet it is not to the standard.

Color - A papillon is always a party colored dog however they sometimes have a lot or littlecolor on the body.  The same goes for Mis-marks (the standard calls for On the head, color(s) other than white must cover both ears, back and front, and extend without interruption from the ears over both eyes. A clearly defined white blaze and nose band are preferred to a solidly marked head for its symmetry. Symmetry of facial markings is desirable.)

so if we have a puppy who doesn't meet this we will place it in a pet home.

Most of the issues for us as breeders have nothing to do with the function as a loved house pet. We have to be very picky about what we keep, as well as why we are breeding a litter. I hope this helps to "clear the waters" so to speak on why we keep what we keep.

Cost with Papillons

AKC conformation showing is also very expensive. Many of the cheap puppies found available elsewhere may have the owner incurring thousands of dollars in vet visits to care for an unhealthy puppy. So a cheap puppy may not be all that inexpensive in the long run. See what goes into breeding a healthy litter
